You could install firebug for firefox(it is an addon), enable the console in it and look if the extension sends a request to the server and what the response of your server is.

QFT (Quoted for truth).

I also use the "Web Developer Toolbar" extension for Firefox. It's not as powerful as Firebug sometimes, but it can be easier to use. Having both is handy :)

Here's a screenshot of CSS/JavaScript errors I can see in Web Developer, from the forum here (tsk tsk Daniel, fix it! ) The second red error means that there are JavaScript errors - your site should show a red error on that right button, explaining your error.

But Firebug usually gives more detailed information. This is just a tip for you :)

Thanks much to you and Daniel for the quick response. Just installed Firebug and am impressed with what it can do. This will make it easy to see the POST and if any responses happen. I'll also try Web Developer Toolbar but Firebug looks like it should do the trick.

Thanks again!

No problem, please share with us the POST error (or whatever) when you find it if you need assistance in tracking it down :)

Hey guys, I've actually had the same problem for both registered and unregistered users. Not everyone experiences it, but I've definitely heard from a number of users that when they try and send their comments, the wheel just spins.

I tried looking at it with firebug, but to be honest, I'm not sure what to look for. I'm currently using 4.0 beta2, and up until yesterday was using 4.0 beta1.

Any recommendations?

Thanks so much for the quick response!

Here you are - www.one4theotherthumb.com

Some people (myself included) have had no problem posting comments (I've been able to comment using Firefox and Safari on Mac OS X as well as from my iPhone), but there are definitely a number who have experienced the infintely spinning wheel.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I guess, i'm one of those people with that problem.
Yep, the image just spins and nothing happen. What I see from firefox is that no request to the server is sent. Could you do me a favor? Disable all plugins you have in your joomla installation and check if it works then. If it does, then start to turn on the plugins one by one, till you find the bastard. Then tell us which plugin is that so that we can install it and tested it ourselves.

Hey Guys, I disabled all of my plugins then turned them on one by one like you said and I still wasn't able to comment from a computer I know has never been able to comment. I also tried uninstalling the JooBB and JCM I had installed but that didn't help either.

...and even with all of the plugins off, I still wasn't able to comment from the same computer I mentioned [sorry, forgot to mention that the first time :)]

Other than uninstalling JooBB and JCM, no, haha. I have a feeling for whatever reason that might have been part of it. Because I've had the commenting issue since I launched the site back in June and the only real extension I had installed at that time was JooBB/JCM. Maybe that was the answer?

It always worked for me from my laptop. But I also tested it from another laptop that I know has had problems commenting in the past and it worked (although the comment went in as spam at first). I'm trying to get some other users to test it to see if it is working for a wider cross section too. So we shall see :)

This other laptop that's causing the problem, you havn't yet mentioned which browser you're testing in. Would it happen to be Internet Explorer 6?

Haha, nah, it was Safari for Mac OS X.

I actually had thought that removing JooBB and JCM had fixed everything, but I had another individual email me this afternoon to say they still were not able to comment. I emailed them back to ask whether they might have been using IE6, but no response yet.

Just heard back from the user who emailed me to say they weren't able to post their comment this afternoon and he said he was using Firefox...so I guess the problem continues?

Ok, I modified the file (because I did have a URL in there for "livesite") and asked the user to retry posting his comment. So I'll let you know if it works! Thanks so much for sticking with me here!!
